I tend to tally
How much I’ve had to give
Like it is the biggest account
In history.
Forgetting -
It is only one side of the equation.
One half
Of a pair,
Forgetting -
How much I take.
The taking
Is a debt I’m ignorant of
Until it takes its toll.
As I sit on the side of giving
I’ll remember what I’ve cost
You
Knowing it is never fully equal
Knowing some seasons of imbalance
Are much larger than others
And do my best to balance the equation
Of give and take.
