You do the right thing. You follow the rules. You do all that is asked of you. You do more. You look ahead. You dream of all that could be. You hope. You plan. You smile at the encouragement, the open hands. You soon learn the promises were empty. You take a step back. The ladder larger, the dream further away. You ask the right questions and receive vague answers. You wonder if it is you or them. You persevere. You try again, another rung up the ladder, hope reclaimed. The door closed on you once more. You question, deeper and deeper. Introspection taking you to a very grey place.
