What do you do while you’re waiting?
While I’m waiting I’ll scroll through the apps / dimly lit on my dark screen / hiding unknown faces from those in line behind me / as if they cared / count how many heads bent over a screen / maybe read a page or two / if the wait was anticipated / or craft a message, an email, a poem / trying to find the right words / for the right time / the right person / as they float in clouds around me / trying to escape / I might try a stork pose / making sure to balance both sides / or eagle / if I’m feeling bold / but only when I’m waiting for the beep of the microwave / the pop of the toaster / in the privacy of my kitchen / out here in the wild / all the birds are caged / behind tiny screens
